| A new $614,000 Children’s Centre has been opened in Strathdale by the Member for Bendigo East, Jacinta Allan.
Representing the Minister for Children, Sherryl Garbutt, Ms Allan said the Bracks Government contributed $250,000 to the Helen Jessen Children’s Centre in Crook Street, with the City of Greater Bendigo providing the remainder.
“The Bracks Government is making Victoria a great place to live and raise a family,” she said.
“We are investing heavily in children’s services across the State because we know how important they are for communities – especially young families.
“The new centre is a redevelopment of the Strathdale Childcare Centre, and will deliver a modern one-stop children and family service centre to support families living in the municipality.
“The centre is named after a respected and dedicated Maternal and Child Health nurse, the late Helen Jessen, who worked in the local community for many years.
“It will accommodate long day care and occasional care, a kindergarten program, Maternal and Child Health service and five consulting rooms and a large multipurpose room which will be used by a variety of child and family service providers.”
Ms Allan said the Helen Jessen Children’s Centre was a great example of local government working with the State Government to give children the best start in life.
The funding for the new centre is part of the State Government’s $16 million, three-year program to establish up to 60 Children’s Centres across Victoria.
“Local families will no longer need to travel to a range of locations to access the services they need,” Ms Allan said.
“The Bracks Government is listening to the needs of local families to deliver better early childhood services to Strathdale.”
