Residents in Melbourne’s south east have even better access to world-class cardiac services with the $1.2 million Brumby Labor Government-funded refurbishment of a Cardiac Catheter Laboratory at MonashHeart now complete.
Visiting Monash Medical Centre in Clayton, Health Minister Daniel Andrews today officially opened the Cardiac Catheter Laboratory 8.
He was joined by Member for Clayton Hong Lim, Member for Bentleigh Rob Hudson, and Member for Mount Waverley Maxine Morand.
“We are taking action to give Victorians a better health system by building new hospitals and hiring more doctors and nurses,” Mr Andrews said.
“That is why we delivered $1.2 million to expand a laboratory and provide new state-of-the-art equipment dedicated to treating heart disease patients.
“This laboratory features only the second installation in Australia of the new generation biplane cardiac catheterisation laboratory used in high-end interventional cardiac procedures.”
Mr Andrews said MonashHeart was the major provider of cardiac services for residents in Melbourne’s south east.
“The size of the laboratory has increased from 36 square metres to 50 square metres and features the latest world class cardiac equipment ensuring patients receive the best possible care,” he said.
“The additional features will provide higher quality images, allow doctors to review their work immediately after completion and assist clinicians in the write up of results for each case.”
Procedures to be performed include coronary angiogram, heart attack coronary angioplasty and more complex new innovations in heart procedures including heart valve replacement and repair, and the improved potential to provide complex procedures for congenital heart abnormalities.
Member for Clayton Hong Lim said the refurbishment would deliver significant benefits to patients in Melbourne’s south east
“Our Government understands how important it is to Victorians to have high-quality health services close to home and MonashHeart will now be able to perform a wider range of cardiac procedures to families in Melbourne’s south east,” Mr Lim said.
