NEW AMBULANCE STATION FOR LYNDHURST Thursday, 28 October 2010

NEW AMBULANCE STATION FOR LYNDHURST

From the Minister for Health

Thursday, 28 October 2010
Lyndhurst residents have access to an even better ambulance service with the Brumby Labor Government today officially opening the new Lyndhurst ambulance station.
Health Minister Daniel Andrews said the new facility provided first-class, modern accommodation for paramedics working in Melbourne’s outer south east.

“We are committed to delivering the highest quality ambulance services to communities across Victoria, close to where people live,” Mr Andrews said.

“The local paramedics here do a wonderful job and this new, spacious state-of-the-art home will ensure they are now even better equipped to respond to critical medical emergencies in and around Lyndhurst.”

Member for Lyndhurst Tim Holding said the new ambulance station could accommodate six paramedics and would operate during the peak period of 11am to 11pm.

“The station is a purpose-built facility and is strategically placed to meet growing demand in the suburbs of Cranbourne North, Narre Warren South and Lynbrook,” Mr Holding said.

“Lyndhurst paramedics respond to about 180 emergency calls every month and this facility will enable them to offer even better services to the community.”

Mr Andrews said the Brumby Labor Government had recently announced $137 million would be provided to recruit over 400 additional paramedics across the state and boost services.

“This funding will deliver additional paramedics both in regional Victoria and Melbourne’s outer suburbs,” he said.

“As part of this boost we will deliver an extra 105 paramedics and 16 new or upgraded services in Melbourne’s growth corridors.

“That’s on top of more than 1200 additional paramedics we’ve already put in place.

“Under this package, Cranbourne and Pakenham will each receive another Peak Period Unit to support the existing 24-hour service, and a new facility will also be built in Pakenham at an estimated cost of $1.7 million.

“Our Government has more than tripled the funding for ambulance services and more than doubled the number of paramedics working across Victoria.

“Victoria’s hardworking paramedics are the best in Australia and we are committed to ensuring they continue to have the resources and support needed to respond to the record demand of callouts and emergency cases.”
