MEDICAL IMAGING BOOST FOR MARYBOROUGH HOSPITAL Wednesday, 19 October 2016

MEDICAL IMAGING BOOST FOR MARYBOROUGH HOSPITAL
More patients will receive critical medical imaging tests sooner and more safely at Maryborough Hospital thanks to a funding boost from the Andrews Labor Government.
Premier Daniel Andrews today joined Minister for Health Jill Hennessy to announce Maryborough District Health Service would receive $1.1 million through the first round of the Labor Government’s new Regional Health Infrastructure Fund.
The $200 million fund – the largest of its kind in Victorian history – will rebuild rural and regional hospitals to ensure all Victorians can access the high quality care and facilities they need, no matter where they live.
Maryborough District Health Service will receive $850,000 to upgrade its medical imaging service with the addition of another ultrasound machine, the replacement of the current aged ultrasound, and the transfer to direct digital radiography.
The latest modern medical imaging technology will enable doctors and nurses to improve patient outcomes, deliver safer and better care, while also meeting increasing demand for local imaging services.
This upgrade will cut general x-ray examination times and improve safety by reducing patient and staff radiation dosage.
Meanwhile, a second grant of $260,000 will fund the upgrade of the fire system at the Dunolly campus of Maryborough District Health Service.
The Victorian Budget 2016/17 provided an extra $2.45 billion for health so hospitals can admit more patients, reduce waiting times, upgrade buildings and infrastructure, and keep Victorians healthy.
The Labor Government’s record investment will enable hospitals to admit an extra 79,000 patients, and treat an extra 43,000 patients in emergency departments across the state.
In 2016/17, Maryborough District Health Service will receive $19.34 million in funding from the Labor Government. This is $611,000 – or 3.3 per cent – more than provided the previous financial year.
