Victoria was notified of 15 new cases of COVID-19 yesterday. All are locally acquired cases.
There are 148 active cases in Victoria – 146 locally acquired and two overseas acquired cases.
There are two COVID-19 cases in hospital in Victoria.
The total number of confirmed cases in Victoria since the beginning of the pandemic is 21,098.
Update: Outbreaks
Of the 15 new locally acquired cases, with the sources of infection under investigation for four cases. Eight were in quarantine throughout their infectious period.
The locally acquired cases include:
· Four cases linked to Al-Taqwa College – three are household contacts of positive cases and one is a student.
· Two cases linked to the City of Hobsons Bay outbreak – both are household contacts of positive cases linked to the Newport-West Footscray football match.
· One case is a household contact of a staff member who worked at Caroline Springs Square Shopping Centre.
· One case is a household contact of an existing case in the City of Melbourne outbreak.
· One case is a household contact of the West Brunswick case reported yesterday.
· One case is a household contact of yesterday’s Glenroy cases and is a student at another primary school.
There were four cases yesterday where investigations are continuing into the possible source of infection:
· One case lives in Wyndham Vale
· One case lives in Roxburgh Park
· One case lives in Middle Park
· One case attends Glenroy West Primary School (plus one additional household contact of this case is also in the reported numbers).
There are more than 400 exposure sites in Victoria and that number continues to grow.

The Department regularly manages exposure sites that it doesn’t publish online, particularly if these sites represent lower-risk exposures, or if they have comprehensive record-keeping and contact tracing measures, or if they identify small, private locations – including smaller apartment or townhouse complexes.
We continue to ask every Victorian to check exposure sites regularly, as they are subject to change based on follow-up interviews and further investigation.
Update: Vaccinations
Yesterday, 27,427 vaccine doses were administered by Victoria’s state-commissioned services - the highest number of vaccinations delivered at Victorian state-run clinics in a single day.
Around 100,000 vaccine doses have been administered in the state-run system since Monday.
The total number of doses administered through these services is 1,896,075.
Today the Victorian Government announced the aim to administer one million COVID-19 vaccination doses in the next five weeks through sites operating with extended hours, an additional 150 vaccination booths coming online and new drive-through vaccination sites to be established in Wyndham, Melbourne’s south-east and in the Hume-Whittlesea area.

Victorians aged between 18 and 39 can attend a state-run vaccination centre to receive the AstraZeneca vaccine should they provide informed consent.
Over the past four days, we have administered 31,000 AstraZeneca doses at our state-run clinics compared to 18,000 AstraZeneca doses administered over the same period last week.
There are around 275,000 vaccination bookings available for the next four weeks. In the past 24 hours, 94,000 bookings have been made. Anyone who is eligible for vaccination is urged to come forward and book in.
There has been an excellent response to the new Melton drive-through vaccination site with more than 900 doses administered this week. More than 650 bookings are scheduled at the drive-through clinic this week.

Update: New COVID-19 wastewater detections in regional Victoria
The Department has been advised of new, unexpected detections of COVID-19 fragments in wastewater in two regional Victorian areas.
The detections are in the Shepparton and Lakes Entrance areas. These detections are significant as both areas do not have any active COVID-19 cases or current exposure sites.
The Shepparton catchment includes the suburbs Shepparton, Kialla and small parts of Shepparton North and Orrvale. Anyone who lives, works or have visited those areas from 9 to 11 August is urged to watch for the slightest symptoms of COVID-19 and to get tested as soon as possible if symptoms develop:
The Lakes Entrance catchment includes the local government areas of Lakes Entrance, Lake Bunga, Kalimna, Lake Tyres and the Lake Tyres Aboriginal Trust. Anyone who lives, works or have visited those areas in Lakes Entrance from 8 to 11 August is urged to watch for the slightest symptoms of COVID-19 and to get tested as soon as possible if symptoms develop:
In the past month in regional Victoria, positive readings for COVID-19 wastewater fragments have been detected in Bacchus Marsh, Benalla, Bendigo, Black Rock, Healesville, Koorlong, Somers and Wangaratta. Those in Benalla, Healesville and Wangaratta are not consistent with known cases and wastewater monitoring has been intensified with no further viral traces found to date.
There are also positive wastewater detections in metropolitan Melbourne in the Camberwell-Balwyn area and two adjacent catchments in the western suburbs including Tarneit, Truganina and Williams Landing. There have also been repeated recent wastewater detections in the Keysborough and Glenroy-Broadmeadows areas.
Wastewater detections in Victoria have been an early warning signal of positive cases appearing in areas, such as Phillip Island in regional areas and multiple metropolitan locations, so people in areas with recent wastewater detections need to be especially vigilant in getting tested should they develop even the mildest of symptoms.
The wastewater testing program is designed as an early warning system and a cautious approach is always taken when these detections are found.
The Department of Health has increased wastewater testing in the areas listed above and will continue to monitor the situation closely.

Update: Testing
A total of 40,737 tests were processed in Victoria yesterday.
In response to continued high demand for testing in Melton, a new Melton drive-through testing site located at the Melton Football and Netball Club in Toolern Vale is operating from 9am to 8pm today and from 8am to 8pm on the weekend.
Testing capacity has also been increased in Caroline Springs, Maidstone, Plumpton, St Albans, Sunshine West and Sydenham.
Demand for testing is busiest in the morning so people are encouraged to check the website for testing centre waiting times and choose a nearby site that has the best capacity or visit later in the day.

Update: Restrictions
Due to the current level of community transmission of COVID-19 in Victoria, the government has announced an extension of the current lockdown measures.

Where a cross-border community area is designated an extreme risk zone, cross-border community members aged 18 years and above will require a permit to enter Victoria from 6:00pm on Friday 13 August. Permits last for 14 days – you won’t need a new one every time you cross and it allows for multiple entries.
Cross border community residents must carry a valid permit when entering from an extreme risk zone. The six reasons why residents can cross the border remain the same. Permits are available from the Service Victoria website www.service.vic.gov.au and via the Service Victoria app.
